North East named most friendly region in England

The results from a recent Government survey have been revealed – and it’s good news for the people of Newcastle and the surrounding area.

The North East has been named the most friendly region in England, with London rooted firmly at the bottom of the list – no surprise there then!


When asked if they chat with their neighbours at least once per month, 84% of the North East people taking part in the survey answered ‘yes’.



The research, compiled by Community Life for the Government, also shows that people aged between 65 and 74  are the friendliest.

The England’s friendliest regions:

North East – 84%

Yorkshire and the Humber – 81%

North West – 79%

South East – 79%

East Midlands – 78%

West Midlands – 78%

East of England – 77%

London – 76%

Friendliest people by age in England

16 to 24 – 57%

25 to 34 – 73%

35 to 49 – 84%

50 to 64 – 83%

65 to 74 – 88%

75 and over – 86%
