Newcastle Street view 1940s and 1950s

Recently we posted a video showcasing life in Newcastle during the 1960s and 1970s and the feedback was great – so we went on the hunt for some more historical footage of our beloved city and were very pleased to discover an even older video.

We have posted before about growing up in Newcastle in the 1990s but this footage is from long before that. Some of our readers will remember Newcastle during the 1940s and 1950s, but whether this period is before your time or not, the video below still makes for fantastic viewing.

A lot has changed, as you can imagine, but due to the fact that much of Newcastle’s architecture has remained the same for several generations, it is easy to identify different parts of the city in the video.

We hope you enjoy it. If you do, don’t forget to share it!
