The biggest party night of the year is nearly here and residents of Tyneside are as always spoilt for choice for ways of welcoming in the New Year.
We take a look at four different options for spending New Years Eve in Newcastle…
New Year’s Eve Carnival:
If fireworks are an essential part of your New Year’s Eve plans then head down to the Quayside where celebrations will start from 5.30pm on December 31st.
The Newcastle Winter Carnival parade is due to start at 4pm at Grey’s Monument with live music and other fantastic performances before it makes its way down to the Quayside.
The celebrations will continue down by the river which is the best viewing point for those keen to see the firework show which is always a sight to behold.
Party goers can enjoy drinks in the Quayside venues before heading back outside in time for the clock to strike twelve and the Midnight firework display to start.
There have been some exciting new additions to the bar and restaurant scene on The Quayside and this New Year’s Eve would be the perfect opportunity to check them out.
We recommend Tiger Hornsby, a fantastic new bar which we mentioned in an article back in July. The New Year’s Eve party here is a ticketed event, and numbers are limited to ensure a fun yet relaxed night. The party starts at 6.30pm, and runs through until 3am. Guests will receive a champagne cocktail on arrival, festive canapés, 3 x DJs, a live saxophonist, midnight fireworks display (including wristband for re-entry into the bar) and celebratory fizz at midnight. Designated drivers will also be able to drink free of charge. Advanced tickets are priced at £20 and there will be a general admission charge of £25 on the night (numbers permitting). Table bookings are available upon request (minimum spend per head applies). For more information and to buy tickets, call 0191 261 6141
If you are looking for an exciting new place to eat for New Year’s Eve then we definitely recommend ‘The Fish Market’. Situated on Queen Street this restaurant really is impressive. I had an amazing meal there last night and enjoyed a delicious steak (yes they do amazing non-seafood too). In fact I would go as far as saying it was the best steak I have ever had in Newcastle!

City-centre 3 venue takeover:
House of Smith, Florita’s and Madame Koo
Gotham is the theme at House of Smith, Florita’s and Madame Koo this New Year’s Eve and if you are looking for a huge event spanning three impressive venues then this is the place to be.
Billed as ‘the greatest party of the year’, this three venue takeover is sure to have something for everyone with three different music policies, live entertainment, unique visuals and much more.
We recommended the Halloween party that was hosted across the same three venues early in October and that ended up being a sold out event well before Halloween itself. Make no doubt about it, the same will happen here for New Year’s Eve, so it is best to get your tickets as early as possible to avoid disappointment.
Tickets are available online here with the option of standard or VIP currently on offer, subject to availability. VIP tickets include a champagne reception, fast track entry, table service and access to both VIP lounges.
HOUSE OF SMITH
DAN STAFFORD & PAUL THOMAS
Black and White New Year’s Eve Ball:
Bonbar and 467 Club
Taking inspiration from the 50s & 60s, and the lives of iconic idols such as Frank Sinatra, Marilyn Monroe, Grace Kelly, Audrey Hepburn and James Dean, Bonbar looks to add that class and glamour of then, with a modern twist of today.
With Ball gowns and 3 piece suits on show and the most elegant setting to match, a fine crowd is expected to descend on Bonbar this New Year’s Eve.
The Sinatra & Monroe era was renowned for its glamour, sophistication and champagne lifestyle. Bonbar will be recreating those scenes for one night only, with a variety of deluxe liqueur, Ciroc Halos lighting up the room and magnum champagne bottles knocked back all evening by the many fine men and women that choose to celebrate New Year’s Eve in this exquisite venue.
The venue will be gracefully dressed in black and white décor to compliment the beautiful architecture of the location itself, creating a wonderful vibe to allow everyone to welcome the New Year in spectacular fashion.
Tickets & Tables
Early bird general tickets £15
General admission £20
All guests booking booths, all VIP and all 467 will receive a bacon sandwich at 1am!

Out of town, live music option:
The Rooftop Bar, Kingston Park
Say goodbye to 2014 and welcome in the New Year in style at The Rooftop Bar in Kingston Park.
Located in Kingston Park Centre, above Luciano’s Italian restaurant (see map below), The Rooftop Bar is a stylish and vibrant venue with a huge selection of drinks on offer. This makes it the perfect choice for those who want some New Year’s Eve fun in a top venue but without the hassle of going into the city centre.
The bar is well known for hosting fantastic New Year’s Eve celebrations and it is likely to be a sell-out if the past two years are anything to go by.
They have an impressive cocktail menu and a wide range of champagne on offer for those who like to celebrate New Year’s Eve with a bit of fizz.
The event will feature live music from local musician Beth Hopper as well as The Rooftop Bar’s resident DJ so you can guarantee the celebrations will continue well into the early hours of 2015.
Tickets can be purchased from the bar or downstairs at Luciano’s and are priced at £12 each. Call 0191 286 1222 for more details.
Whatever you decide to do, we hope you have a great night!
