The heart of the North East has been touched once again by another act of compassion from another young woman…
It was only a few weeks ago we seen over £330,000 raised through an online appeal set up by beautician Katie Cutler for local man Alan Barnes who was knocked to the ground outside his Gateshead home.
Following the Murder of mum of two Melissa Liddle on Mother’s Day last Sunday, over £5,000 has been raised in donations via a fund set up by South Shields Personal Assistant Nikki Keighley.
On the 15th of March at just 23 years old, Melissa’s life was tragically cut short leaving behind her two young sons, Lewis, 5, and eight-month-old Ollie. Both boys are being taken care of by family members who are overwhelmed by the support they have received so far.
Nikki, 25, whose uncle is Melissa’s stepfather said “I first thought of setting up the fund on Tuesday while at work thinking of Ollie and Lewis and how they would cope without a mam.” 361 people have already contributed to the fund over 2 days and the donations continue to roll in.
Inspired by the Alan Barnes fund Nikki said
I only expected a couple of hundred at best, the money is to go towards the family and the bringing up of the boys …We can’t take away what has happened but with a little donation we can provide support and help to the family.
As the time passes random acts of local kindness see the donations on the ‘go fund me’ page set up by young Nikki to continue, providing a little more help to Melissa’s family with every contribution.
Yet again, the North East never fails.
