Ok, this post might seem to be a bit pedantic but hear us out.
The Sport Bible (a popular website from the same people as The Lad Bible) posted an article yesterday about a poll that reveals which football club has the ugliest fans. The post was based on data from the dating website Match – where over 1,000 fans of top-flight clubs were asked which of their rivals had the most attractive supporters.
You can read the full Sport Bible post here but basically the results of the poll were as shown below with AFC Bournemouth deemed to have the most attractive fans and Chelsea the least…
1. AFC Bournemouth
3. Norwich City
4. Manchester City
5. Swansea City
6. Newcastle United
7. Aston Villa
8. Leicester City
12. West Ham United
14. West Bromwich Albion
15. Crystal Palace
16. Tottenham Hotspur
17. Stoke City
19. Manchester United
Obviously a poll like this has no real purpose other than just a bit of fun but the way in which the Sport Bible conducted their own poll caught our attention.
The Sport Bible has a very popular Facebook page (over 7 million fans at this present moment) and the picture used as the featured image for the post about the Match.com poll included a Newcastle fan. You may recognise him as Keith ‘Beefy’ Roberts, he’s the guy that is often picked up by TV cameras during Newcastle games and we wrote an article about him last month about how he says he is now too fat to watch the Toon play.
Anyway, we can see why they used that picture as it is likely to catch people’s attention and encourage them to click the post.
But at the end of their article they included their own poll, asking readers who they believed had the ugliest fans – this time there were only 5 options to choose from, Manchester United, Liverpool, Chelsea, Arsenal and Newcastle…
Once again, they used a picture of a Newcastle crowd as the featured image. Would this make a difference on the results? Does it encourage people to click Newcastle? Who knows.
Anyway, we think it’s strange that out of all the Premier League teams to choose from, they decided to feature Newcastle in both of the images!
Here are the results of the Sport Bible poll…
Newcastle fans are the ‘winners’ with 37% of the votes. Maybe featuring a Newcastle fan in the background of the poll influenced the decision of voters or perhaps readers of the Sport Bible do genuinely think this.
It’s strange that Newcastle were even provided as an option in the poll really. If they just wanted to include the ‘big’ teams then surely City would have been a better option.
Seeing as Newcastle fans were actually voted as the 6th most attractive by the original poll vote it seems strange that we were included at all.
Tottenham Hotspur, Stoke City, Sunderland, Manchester United and Chelsea have the least attractive fans according to the Match.com results so perhaps the Sport Bible should have used these teams in their own poll.
Yep, we told you this post was going to be pedantic!
